Hundreds of guests attended the ribbon cutting and tour Thursday night of the newly opened ShorePoint Health Behavioral Center, 809 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda.

PUNTA GORDA — ShorePoint Health CEO Andy Romine said Hurricane Ian was a type of blessing after the 40-year mental health facility was severely damaged during the September 2022 Category 4 storm.

“We were fortunate that Ian came through,” he said. “It (the hurricane) rendered our previous building — which had been there for 40 years — in a state of disrepair.”
